Outdoor Education
Seventh graders go to YMCA Estes Park Center for three days in the spring. The focus of the trip is on learning about nature and the environment, but more importantly, bonding as a class to prepare for the leadership responsibilities of eighth grade. Last year students learned some astronomy, dissected owl pellets, studies plants and animals, participated in writing projects, hiked, prepared their own prayer services, and cooked their own meals.
Science Fair
Each spring students in Grades 6-8 participate in a science fair with student lead experiments to practice the scientific method. Students must present their research and findings to a panel of judges and winners get cash prizes.
Junior Great Books
Starting in fifth grade, students testing two grade levels ahead in reading and maintaining a high grade point average may be nominated for Junior Great Books. In this program they read and discuss challenging, classic literature with participants from other schools.
